Diamond Bros. Transport
- From the July 2011 issue.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence that the term ‘diamond’ is based on an ancient Greek word meaning ‘unbreakable’; but it is a fact that 55 years after Greek-born John and Nick Diamond have founded Diamond Bros. Transport in Adelaide, the company can look back on an unbroken record.
In 1956, two years after migrating from Greece, Nick Diamond purchased a truck that would become the foundation of Diamond Bros. Transport. The company as it is known today was born when Nick’s brother John arrived. To capture the booming local car transportation industry, the duo converted the next truck into a car carrier.
“From here John and Nick have now handed over the reign to John’s sons Con and Chris, and Nick’s sons George and Arthur, who continue to manage the company today,” says National Business Development Manager Rebecca Pearce, resuming the company’s vibrant history. “Originally it was only John and Nick, and today the company has grown to employ over 50 staff.”
Initially Diamond Bros. focused on car carrying, but over time Adelaide’s industry changed, and Diamond Bros. has grown to become a line haul specialist, commuting between Adelaide and the Eastern Seaboard. “Today the product range we cart is wide and varied, ranging from general freight to solar panels and recycling material,” says Rebecca. “We are servicing the entire east coast from Melbourne to Brisbane.”
In the context of the new, versatile portfolio, Diamond Bros.’ fleet is just as varied. “At the moment, we maintain 35 prime movers by Kenworth, Scania, Volvo, Freightliner and Iveco,” Rebecca says. “We also operate in excess of 70 trailers, mostly made by Krueger; but we also have Vawdrey and Freighter equipment.
“In fact, Krueger makes up for over 90 percent of our trailing equipment. Since 1987, we have established a sound business relationship with Krueger, because we think that both the service and the product are second to none,” Rebecca adds. “John Krueger and his team listen to our needs and are able to custom build specialised equipment. We have bought other brands, too, but continue to go back to Krueger because we have found Krueger trailing equipment to be the most cost efficient asset we have ever invested in.”

Operating a fleet of 34-pallet B-doubles, 45 ft. single trailers and 48 ft. flat tops, Diamond Bros. place high value on high cube trailing equipment. “All our trailers achieve a capacity of over 100m3 while retaining an overall height below 4.3m.”
And because a fleet of innovative high cube vehicles may attract attention on the road, the family company is dedicated to the presentation of each and every combination. “It’s the first impression a customer will get of the company, and the most important one as well,” says Rebecca.
It may only be a coincidence that the combination of a white truck and blue trailer is reminiscent of the Greek national flag, popularly referred to as the galanolefki, the ‘blue-white’; but Diamond Bros take a pride in the famous colour scheme.
“We have invested into the MTDATA maintenance programme, which fully automated our servicing requirements and maintenance schedules, thus allowing us to maintain and service our fleet to any standard applied,” says Rebecca. “We also operate a dedicated wash bay and run a cleaning department.”
It is no surprise that the customer service division is based on the same, ongoing commitment. “At Diamond Brothers we offer a personalised service that is hard to find in larger companies. We want to be recognised as a leading provider of general haulage services by capitalising on our ability to offer personalised services at competitive rates,” Rebecca says. “Our team of operational experts are trained to provide specialised services including the design and implementation of tailored solutions and the development of purpose-built equipment for our clients’ special needs. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
In remembrance of Nick and John, Diamond Bros.’ management is committed to regular training programs for all staff. “Our drivers are thoroughly road-tested and have had their references checked prior to employment. They are also trained in equipment handling, the securing of freight, and loading and unloading procedures,” says Rebecca. “That’s part of our commitment.”
