GRW: The new player in town
- From the April 2017 issue.
After testing the waters in Australia for the last three years, South African tanker brand GRW is officially setting up shop down under, bringing a smart and sophisticated design alternative to a hotly contested market.
In May 2016 at the International Truck Trailer and Equipment Show in Melbourne, Australia’s commercial road transport industry had the opportunity to put eyes on a number of innovative new equipment designs that stirred up the market in the months to follow – especially in the trailer space.
One particular piece that had a lasting impact was a six-compartment aluminium fuel tanker bearing the Emerald Carrying Co (ECC) colours. Eye-catching not only for its sophisticated construction, the display provided many an onlooker with a first-hand view of South African engineering prowess from GRW.
Named after its creators – Gerhard van der Merwe, Wentzel van der Merwe and Rossouw van Eeden – GRW was founded by the innovative trio to answer a mounting need for change to the local tanker market in South Africa. The team applied their engineering background to design and hand-built their very own tanker trailer in 1996.
One trailer soon became many, each one demonstrating the trio’s talent for delivering “exceptional product functionality” whilst offering “superior product quality,” says Business Development Executive, Wentzel. Twenty years later, GRW now has a team of 43 qualified engineers, product specialists and 3D CAD designers employing the latest engineering analysis, modelling and data management software.
