Quantity of quality

Brisbane-based family business, KS Easter, thrives on its ability to deliver on time, every time – something company Owner, Ken Easter, says doesn’t happen by accident, but by using quality equipment like Maxi-CUBE Dry Freight Vans.

Meeting tight turnaround schedules is a daily reality for Ken Easter, Owner of Brisbane-based time-sensitive freight specialist, KS Easter. In order to stay in business for over 40 years, Ken has made a rule of using only the most reliable equipment, in order to ensure it stays on the road and keeps to schedule. “We move absolutely any cargo that the client needs delivered the next day. For us, choosing trailers to join the fleet comes down to consistency of quality,” Ken says.

Having recently taken delivery of a number of 34-pallet Maxi-CUBE Dry Freight B-double vans, Ken has long been an advocate for insisting on quality. “All together, I have around 120 Maxi-CUBE vans and Freighter Tautliners that run our linehaul express freight operation,” he says, adding all of them were ordered from Queensland dealer, Trailer Sales.

“I’ve been working with Trailer Sales for years and it knows my spec, so it’s simple – I just have to pick up the phone and say ‘send me five, ten, 20 more trailers’ and before you know it, they’re delivered. Same quality, every time.”
Trailer Sales’ Scott Thiesfield says the relationship between the two companies is built on a foundation of trust. “We see ourselves as a trusted advisor within the KS Easter business, which is an approach we take with all of our customers,” he says.
“If we can take care of the equipment and deliver it on time and to specification, while also advising Ken on the latest laws and regulations surrounding trailer design and operation, it frees him up to spend more time working on his business.”

Trailer Sales is part of the Australia and New Zealand MaxiTRANS Dealer Network for new and used trailers, service, parts and repairs. Ken says the network means that no matter which branch a KS Easter trailer visits, the work will be done to the correct standards. “We’re based in Brisbane, but we have trailers dedicated to Melbourne-Sydney and Melbourne-Adelaide runs. Rather than having to come back to head office for service, we can pop a trailer into any facility in the MaxiTRANS network and know it’s in good hands.”

He adds that he rarely needs to make use of the network outside of scheduled maintenance, testament to the quality and reliability of the equipment. “Because of the strict schedules we run to, we base our equipment purchasing decisions on whole of life costs, rather than buying based on an upfront price for gear that ends up costing more in maintenance and downtime.”

According to Scott, the reliability of the Maxi-CUBE Dry Freight Vans is due to their sturdy and robust construction. The trailers feature Maxi-CUBE’s C-Series chassis as the base model, along with reinforcement at the rear of the trailer for protection from docking, most prominently including a fabricated steel rear frame.Further, Maxi-CUBE scuff bands are made from pultruded fibreglass that is more resistant to dents than aluminium or steel alternatives.

Known for its high quality and well-presented fleet, KS Easter’s trailers are also specified with the latest features, including satellite tracking on all units. Having good-looking combinations helps give his drivers the motivation to look after their vehicles and keep them clean, but Ken says the attention-grabbing trailers also play an important role in promoting work health and safety.

“We use some of our trailers to assist the NHVR with a full rear display about Chain of Responsibility. We’re happy to do so because we believe it is all about safety and responsibility, so it is a worthwhile cause,” he states. “It makes sense for us to align the NHVR support with our Maxi-CUBE trailers because they both stand for the same thing: transport safety.”

In line with that, KS Easter’s membership to the Australian Trucking Association’s (ATA) TruckSafe program provides another system to align with that helps it stay compliant and running safe on the roads. “Although we work to very strict deadlines, we never rush the job or cut corners. With Maxi-CUBE trailers, we know we have the right equipment to get the job done to deadline without compromising safety.”
