The man behind the Tightwinder

The man behind TransKing’s inventions, Lindsay King, has spent a lifetime developing and perfecting innovative safety products for the commercial road transport industry such as the Tightwinder load restraint system.

With almost half a century of working in transport under his belt, Lindsay King has certainly seen a lot of changes to the industry – especially in the heavy-vehicle space. His career began as a motor mechanic in 1968, working mainly in the car industry, moving into commercial vehicles in 1976 with a mechanic’s role at Wards Express.

His ambition and drive saw him promoted to Fleet Manager, during which time he began experimenting in aerodynamics, finding improvements in fuel conservation through his use of nose cones and belly lockers. Finding the taste of developing new products quite to his liking, Lindsay set up his own company in 1995 and dedicated his mind to creating practical, yet effective solutions to common trailer equipment issues.

With his ear to the ground through his ongoing trailer sales role, Lindsay learned that many an Australian fleet was struggling with load restraint in areas with limited accessibility. Thus, the Tightwinder was born. Engineered and built here in Australia, the prototype went through a number of designs to reach the optimum in affordability with superior load restraint qualities and operational efficiencies.
