Why Maxi-CUBE is still the choice
- From the October 2016 issue.
With a substantial order of 30 refrigerated trailers this year, fresh produce transport specialist Geoff Richards Transport has now purchased over 150 Maxi-CUBE vans throughout a 40-year-long partnership.
Every morning, refrigerated trailers packed full of fresh produce and parcel freight from all over Australia are unpacked at crowded markets around the country. Standing out amongst the plethora of vehicles are a number of colourful prime movers pulling Maxi-CUBE reefers, all boasting the Geoff Richards Transport name.
At the helm of the Brisbane-based fresh produce haulage specialist, company founder and namesake, Geoff Richards, says much has changed since he started working as an owner-driver in the 1970s, but the fundamentals remain the same.
“I’ve been working with Maxi-CUBE since the day I started. I reckon the first trailer I ever bought was a Freighter jumbo fridge van in 1976 and the relationship has gone on from there,” says Geoff, speaking of another trailer brand under parent company, MaxiTRANS. “Maxi-CUBE has a good product that maintains temperatures no matter where we travel and it’s run by good people so we’ve stuck by it.”
Growing from a one-man operation to a business currently boasting 90-odd staff – 12 of which are Richards family members – the second generation is now in charge of the business, “leaving me semi-retired with lots of time for lunches,” Geoff says.
“The same generational handover is also now happening with many of the farming customers that have been clients of mine since my early days as an owner-driver. I did a good job and we became friends, and now our children are friends too.”
