Rather than reacting to trends, Carrier Transicold is always planning one step ahead, already offering engineless refrigeration units that can meet the future demands for efficiency and sustainability right now.

As the trends towards efficiency and sustainability continue to gain momentum, many a supplier to the commercial road transport industry is beginning to develop solutions to meet operators’ new requirements.
Already ahead of the rest, refrigeration specialist Carrier Transicold has already found the answer. According to Carrier, its new Eco-Drive GenSets and engineless refrigeration solutions help meet the needs of a wide range of customers, while maintaining the quality of perishable goods.

“Carrier Transicold’s engineless refrigeration units offer strong cooling capacity, require minimal maintenance and have a low impact on the environment,” outlines Kelly Geddes, Marketing Manager, Carrier Transicold Australia.
Carrier Transicold now offers fleets refrigeration units running entirely on hydro-electric power generated by a truck’s ultra-clean Euro V or Euro VI type engine, cutting emissions, maintenance costs and improving fuel efficiency. The Carrier engineless solutions are also quiet and fully PIEK certified – meaning they can operate below 60 decibels, making them ideal for night-time deliveries in urban areas.

When mounted to a commercial vehicle, a hydraulic pump connected to the truck’s power take-off (PTO) drives the Carrier Eco-Drive GenSet, delivering electrical power to the unit without any requirement for the refrigeration unit to use its own diesel engine. “Additionally, the system’s total fuel consumption is measurably lower than those using just the refrigeration unit’s own engine,” Kelly says.

Integrated into the hydraulic system is a control unit that ensures the generator runs at a consistent RPM, maintaining constant power output even when the truck is idling in heavy traffic – eliminating the need for the driver to rev the truck’s engine to provide sufficient cooling power.

Carrier’s Eco-Drive GenSets can also be fitted to nearly all makes and models of prime movers and rigid trucks to power any trailer refrigeration unit, such as the Vector 1550. The Vector 1550 features a hermetically sealed, electrically-driven scroll compressor that eliminates belts and shaft seals, allowing for fewer leaks and minimising maintenance.

“These engineless units add a new dimension to our range of products and directly support our goal of helping fleet operators meet their efficiency and environmental goals to achieve a sustainable cold chain,” says Kelly. “The Brisbane Truck Show represents the perfect opportunity to introduce both existing and prospective customers to the many benefits afforded by the new Carrier engineless technology.”
