Original equipment manufacturer, and third-generation business, Barker Trailers, has unveiled its 10,000th trailer at its factory in Woodend, Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews, Minister for Industry and Employment, Ben Carroll, and Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, visited Barker Trailers’ facility in Woodend today to celebrate the milestone with a ribbon-cutting event.

Barker Trailers has been manufacturing semi-trailers since 1974 in the Loddon Mallee region and has production sites in Woodend and Maryborough.

The business reportedly employs around 185 staff, including up to 20 apprentices at any one time, producing 480 trailers each year using 100 per cent Australian steel.

“We’re proud to stand behind companies like Barker Trailers, who are creating jobs for Victorians,” said Andrews.

“With our support, we’re ensuring Victoria remains the home of advanced, modern manufacturing in Australia,” he said.

The Victorian Government is supporting regional Victoria through the $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund and initiatives like the reduction of payroll tax for regionally based businesses.

The Victorian Government has also committed over $100 million in manufacturing support, creating over 3,500 jobs and driving more than $1.2 billion in private investment.

“Today’s milestone is testament to the strength of Victoria’s manufacturing industry – an industry we’ll continue to support to create jobs and boost our economy,” said Carroll.

Barker Trailers CEO, Simon Meadows said it is an honour to be a part of the ‘Barker Team’. “There is true passion and commitment to quality throughout the business, across the great network of customers, supply partners and the community,” he said. “I would like to thank all who have contributed to the rich history of the ‘Barker journey so far’, a journey celebrated by the amazing 10,000th Trailer Celebration, as we look forward to achieving many more great milestones ahead.”
