Original equipment manufacturer, and third-generation business, Barker Trailers, was awarded ’2019 Leader in Workforce Skills Development’ at the Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards held last week in the Docklands, Victoria.

The Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards has been running since 2001 and recognises Victorian manufacturers that have made an ongoing impact on the industry through innovation, investment and trade and supply connections.

“We know that recognising the outstanding achievements of the state’s manufacturing industry is important, and the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards are a vital part of this,” said Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade, Martin Pakula.

“Our manufacturing industry is innovative and internationally competitive, with strong growth in exports, business confidence and capital investment over the past year,” he said.

Barker Trailers CEO, Simon Meadows, told The Maryborough District Advertiser that the business is honoured to be recognised for its hard work.

“The State Government acknowledges manufacturing each year through these awards and for them to acknowledge what we do and our investment in people and skill development is fantastic,” he said.

Victoria’s manufacturing industry contributes more than $30 billion to the state’s economy annually and employs nearly 280,000 people.

November last year, the Victorian Government granted Barker Trailers a funding boost to enable workers in Maryborough and Woodend to learn new job skills.

Early 2018, Barker Trailers celebrated 44 years in business with the unveiling of its 10,000th trailer at its factory in Woodend.

Barker Trailers was also recognised for its ‘industry passion’ at the 29th Australian Freight Industry Awards.
