  • Posted on Monday 30th, October 2017.

Supermarket company, Coles, has said that 200 new Coles trailers have hit the road thanks to trailer manufacturer, MaxiTRANS.

The $60 million contract was reportedly announced in April 2017 and resulted in a significant boost in employment and apprenticeships in Ballarat, including 70 new jobs.

Coles has ordered 386 Maxi-CUBE and Freighter trailers to be custom-built for use in New South Wales and Western Australia.

According to Coles, 200 trailers have rolled off the production line, with the rest to be completed by the end of March 2018.

Coles General Manager Supply Chain – South Zone, Tony O’Toole, has said the trailers were a welcome addition to the Coles fleet.

“Just as Coles is committed to supporting local farmers and producers, we were pleased to work with leading regional manufacturer MaxiTRANS to help deliver this significant investment in our fleet,” said O’Toole.

“An additional 386 trailers on the roads means our stores are well-stocked and customers have better access to the everyday items they love,” he said.

“Despite the recent closures of automotive manufacturing plants in Australia, we are proud to boast the bright future of our regional and metropolitan manufacturing facilities,” said MaxiTRANS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Dean Jenkins.

“Coles’ commitment to MaxiTRANS not only ensures that jobs remain in Australia but reflects confidence in Australian manufacturing which will benefit the future of all Australians,” he said.
