Collins Transport aims for expansion

  • Posted on Thursday 10th, March 2016.

Refrigerated transport company, Collins Transport, is set to expand with the purchase of two hectares of South Australian Government land.

Urban Development Minister, Stephen Mullighan, said Collins Transport was making a significant investment in its business after purchasing just over two hectares at Wingfield from the State Government.

“Collins purchased the site behind its existing headquarters and depot after a public Expression of Interest process by Renewal SA,” Mullighan said.

“Collins Transport specialises in refrigerated and frozen products and this purchase will allow it to expand its Wingfield depot by about 40 per cent.

“The business employs 320 people nationally and is expected to increase its workforce by up to 20 per cent in the next 12 months with the Wingfield expansion.

“It’s great to see a family-owned South Australian business doing so well, particularly in the fresh and frozen food distribution category.

“South Australia is a leading supplier of fresh produce into major retail stores and produce markets across the nation, and Collins Transport’s decision to expand is a real vote of confidence in our state.

“This means it will be able to supply more South Australian produce to other states, so the benefits for our state are far-reaching.”

Collins Transport Service Director, Neil Collins, said the acquisition and expansion would enable the business to better serve the many different industries it works with.

“This is a 24-7 business and this land gives us the space to meet the growing needs of South Australia’s fresh food and general industry by investing in our fleet, facilities and workforce,” Collins said.
