Head of ITS America to talk at PBS conference

  • Posted on Monday 18th, February 2013.

The first Performance Based Standards (PBS) conference in ten years will be held in Melbourne in March. It has now been confirmed that Dr Peter Sweatman, chairman of the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) America and Director of the University of Michigan's Transport Research Unit, will be coming to Australia as a keynote dinner speaker.

Peter is a former Melbournian, and one who championed PBS in its infancy. His work has been influential in developing truck size and weight evaluation tools for the Federal Highway Administration and the world’s first comprehensive PBS regulatory regime for Australia. He also chaired the landmark DIVINE study of vehicle-infrastructure interaction for the Organization for Economic cooperation and Development (OECD) and is a past president of the International Forum for Road Transport Technology.

"It's great to see Australia leading the world in heavy vehicle innovation through PBS," he told Trailer. Next to Peter, the two-day conference will boast over 25 well regarded speakers, including Richard Hancock, Chief Executive of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
