Investigations under way for NSW intersection upgrade

  • Posted on Tuesday 13th, February 2018.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the Australian and New South Wales Governments have each allocated $4.4 million to upgrade the Burley Griffin Way and Irrigation Way intersection at Yoogali.

“The Yoogali intersection is the meeting point of four major roads including Burley Griffin Way, Mackay Avenue, Irrigation Way and Kurrajong Avenue,” the spokesperson said.

“This busy intersection has been identified as needing improvements.

“This multi-million project will involve widening the intersection to accommodate larger and longer vehicles as well as upgrading and widening the rail level crossing.

“Investigation work is under way and is an all-important stage in the planning process to develop a concept design and final design for the intersection improvements.

“Most of the investigation work will be carried out in the road reserve between Monday 12 February and early March and will be used to inform the environmental and engineering assessment.”

The spokesperson said the work is a case of short-term pain for long-term gain, as the Yoogali intersection upgrade will result in improved road user safety and light and heavy vehicle access.

“Roads and Maritime is working closely with stakeholders including Griffith City Council to minimise disruption while work planning work is carried out.

“Planning for the upgrade is expected to be completed later this year, with work expected to start in early 2019 and take around 12 months to complete.”
