More than metal: Capral

Aluminium specialist, Capral, has the biggest selection of extruded shapes in various transport-specific alloys as well sheet and plate products in stock in national distribution centres throughout the country.

As Australia’s largest manufacturer and distributor of aluminium products for the road transport industry, Capral Aluminium has the infrastructure and the technical expertise to accommodate the road transport industry’s diverse requirements.

Trailer and body builders often requisition the services of Capral to machine quality aluminium sheet and plate products to specification. As an Australian supplier, Product Manager, Mark Murray, understands the importance of ensuring short lead times to facilitate smooth running operations.

“Capral has the warehouse space and the distribution capabilities to add considerable value to Australia’s most prominent original equipment manufacturers,” said Murray. “Our services can be scaled to accommodate small family businesses and larger corporations.”

Murray explains that extrusions can be manufactured – with fast lead times – up to 17 metres in length and 400mm CCD on Australia’s largest 12” press, while sheet and plate products are carried ex stock up to 2.2 metres wide and 12.8 metres long.

Capral’s philosophy is: wherever a customer is operating, they should feel like the Capral Aluminium one-stop shop is operating right next door. Mark says that Capral has the national reach to assign business managers to key accounts.

“Our business managers work closely with Australian manufacturers so that they receive the best value,” said Murray. “Over time, our business managers can build models based on historical consumption data to make sure that clients always have the equipment capacity to manufacture and supply materials to satisfy demand.”

Capral sells to customers who build Performance-Based Standards trailers, tippers, refrigerated vans, Pantechs, specialised vehicles, buses and ute bodies.

Capral has many added value capabilities including router cutting and marking solutions, a new seven-axis state-of-the-art robotic machining centre, punching, slotting, precision cutting and CNC machining.

All extrusions manufactured by Capral are produced to the chemical composition, mechanical property and dimensional tolerances in AS/NZS 1866:1997. Capral is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015 and has an ISO/IEC 17025 NATA accredited mechanical testing laboratory.

Murray said Capral has developed its online ordering service, the ‘Capral E-Store’ with the customer in mind, aiming to provide a simple way to request products at all hours of the day.

“The convenience of online shopping is now available for Capral’s core range of aluminium sheet, plate and extrusion products,” he said.

“There is no minimum order, so customers can complete an entire purchase on our easy-to-use online store, with all prices outlined clearly to ensure complete transparency.”

The combination of Australian warehouses, three shift packing and instant online ordering service means Capral’s customers do not have to carry as much stock on hand.

“To maximise inventory space for trailer and body builders, Capral can deliver orders where and when they are needed,” said Murray.

Capral is also launching the new ‘Capral Hub App’ in 2019 for mobile users, which will showcase all transport aluminium sheet, plate and extrusion products. The rise of e-commerce shows no signs of slowing and Capral is well on board with the changing digital landscape.
