NHVR joins road safety program

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is the latest ‘Core Funder’ to join the National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP), demonstrating its commitment to engage positively with the commercial road transport industry.

NRSPP Manager, Jerome Carslake, has welcomed the NHVR as its latest Core Funder.

“The NRSPP, as proudly hosted by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB), is evolving and building a centre of excellence for workplace road safety,” said Carslake.

“Our partners work together to build initiatives which will have a meaningful impact on work related road injury and fatality.

“By partnering with, and being supported by, the NHVR, NRSPP can be a powerful tool in the NHVR’s strategy to provide both safe and productive journeys for the heavy vehicle industry” he said.

“The goals of both the NHVR and NRSPP are quite similar,” said Independent Chair of NRSPP Steering Committee, Doctor Ian Johnston. “The NRSPP’s motto ‘Improving road safety, it’s simply good business!’ is in line with the NHVR’s goal of improving safety outcomes through the effective management of risk and adoption of Safety Management Systems.

“With such similarities between the two, it was only fitting that there was greater support for the NRSPP by the NHVR,” he said.

NRSPP will reportedly release a case study exploring how Program Partner Darryl Dickenson Transport has grown its business without compromising safety.

“It is sharing these sorts of practical examples for others to build upon which is the strength of the NRSPP” said Jonhston. “The NRSPP looks forward to working closer with the NHVR in the future to achieving their shared goals.”

Other ‘Core Funders’ of the NRSPP include: The South Australian Motor Accident Commission, NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Victorian Transport Accident Commission, Transport for NSW, VicRoads and WA Road Safety Commission.
