Roundtable explores emerging manufacturing opportunities

  • Posted on Monday 5th, August 2019.

Leaders from peak industry associations, large companies, research organisations and universities joined with Government representatives in Canberra last month to look at ways to grow the economy and create jobs in Australian manufacturing.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen Andrews, said the roundtable demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to manufacturing.

“Australia’s manufacturing industries are a vital element of our economy, they’re a big employer and producer of products and services,” said Andrews.

“Manufacturing creates value across the economy through its demand for research and development, design and engineering services, production, logistics and after sales service.

“The Morrison Government is determined to build on our strengths, grasp new opportunities, and create high value jobs for Australians.

“The roundtable discussed ways to enable the transformation of our traditional and emerging manufacturing industries, to build our competitive advantage and thrive in global markets and value chains.

“Improving take up of technology, developing the skills of our workforce, increasing our export focus and enhancing productivity were also key points of consideration,” she said.

The roundtable builds on the Morrison Government’s commitment to create a $160 million Manufacturing Modernisation Fund and support for manufacturing exporters through $5 million for a reinvigorated Australian made campaign.

A thriving manufacturing sector is part of our plan to grow the economy and create 1.25 million new jobs over the next five years.
