SSAB announces Hardox 500 Tuf wear plate

  • Posted on Wednesday 13th, September 2017.

Specialist global steel manufacturer, SSAB, has developed Hardox 500 Tuf, a new wear plate for tipper bodies, buckets and containers that can reportedly double the service life of heavy-duty equipment.

According to SSAB, Hardox 500 Tuf has exceptional strength, hardness and toughness; combining the best properties of Hardox 450 and Hardox 500 in the same wear plate.

“Hardox 500 Tuf is ‘tough’ enough to perform as a structural material in heavy-duty tipper bodies and buckets,” the company has said.

“Hardox 500 Tuf has superior wear and dent resistance, offering increased service life and the ability to withstand heavy impact.

“Typical working conditions include loading and unloading of heavy and sharp rocks in quarries and mines, handling large and heavy steel scrap, and in demolition when pieces of concrete with rebar are loaded or dropped into tippers,” said SSAB.

The specialist steel manufacturer has also reported that it tested the new wear plate in the bottom plate of a dump body and the vehicle “has transported over 40,000 metric tons of crushed rock during more than a year with very low wear. Measuring the thickness at the end section of the 6mm bottom plate showed an average wear of only 5 per cent.”
