Toll takes delivery of new Drake equipment

  • Posted on Tuesday 18th, December 2018.

Three sets each of 4x8 Jinkers and 2x8 Dollies designed and built by the Drake Group specifically for the Toll Group have recently been put into service.

“The Drake Group is thrilled to supply more 4x8 Jinkers and 2x8 Dollies for Toll, said Drake Group Sales Manager, Sam Drake.

“They incorporate an unrivalled tare weight, automatic self-steering axles with manual override and, interestingly, they have the ability to be loaded and towed as a Jinker to Jinker combination when being drawn by a block truck prime mover.”

“In addition to this the units are fully equipped with work health and safety features including air operated hand rails and alloy platforms.”

With their distinctive green livery, Toll Group trucks and trailers are regularly seen plying Australia’s highways, ferrying urgent deliveries around the country every day.

Of the challenges Toll Group faces, one is that the company is open to transporting anything, anywhere, at any time.

This means that every now and then it is tasked with moving something extraordinary that doesn’t exactly fit into the bounds of a regular box.

Things like bridge beams, poles or even wind turbines.

This kind of work requires a dedicated piece of hardware, and that’s where the Drake Group’s 4x8 Jinker comes into its own.

According to Toll Group, the Jinker is an engineering masterpiece, specifically engineered and manufactured to handle long, self-supporting objects.

Originally Jinkers were used to carry logs from forests to saw mills but their versatile design means they can handle all sorts of long, heavy items across the state or even across the country.

Toll’s 4x8 Jinkers are rated to carry 60 tonnes and can be hitched together with the dollies as a Jinker/ Jinker combination.

They have self-steering axles with radio remote control manual override steering systems complete with signal lighting, all powered by Yanmar diesel power packs.

The Toll Group units feature a bright yellow frame with ladders on the rear to enable operators to safely secure the load before transportation.

Toll Group also took possession of three sets of new 2 x 8 Dollies.

These highly dependable units are designed and built by Drake Group to handle high duty cycles under harsh Australian operating conditions.

They have high tensile steel frames which enable a relatively low tare weight while still possessing the necessary strength to handle the heavy jobs.

The dollies feature Ringfeder drawbar connections and alloy operator platforms.

They also have fold away access ladders enabling safe three points of contact access to the operator’s platform for lashing down loads.
