VTA announces 2017 WFD Chalmers Award winner

  • Posted on Friday 6th, October 2017.

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has announced Paul Ryan as the winner of the 2017 WFD Chalmers Award at the VTA President’s Dinner.

The dinner was held on 5 October at the Athenaeum Club, Melbourne – hosted by VTA President, Cameron Dunn – and welcomed Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Honourable Darren Chester.

The WFD Chalmers Award was named in honour of Daryl Chalmers, who was a member of the VTA’s executive council for more than 40 years and a life member for three decades. The award recognises the services to the transport and logistics industry in support of the VTA and its members.

Ryan has worked in the industrial relations arena for 40 years in the road transport industry, assisting the VTA with both strategic and operational industrial advice on industrial/workplace relations issues since 1997. He is the National Industrial Advisor for both the VTA and the Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO), which is the national industrial organisation representing employers in the road transport industry and is registered under the Fair Work Act 2009.

"We are delighted to recognise Paul for his outstanding contribution to the VTA and the transport industry at large," said VTA CEO, Peter Anderson.

"His dedication to the industry has seen him work tirelessly to protect the rights of our members, and provide advice on countless major industrial cases. Paul is an important part of the VTA, and this industry, and we are proud to present him with this award."

According to the VTA, Ryan was appointed as an Industry Member of the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal in June 2012. He is also an alternate director of TWUSUPER, the industry super fund for the freight and logistics industry.

The VTA President’s Dinner was sponsored by CMV Truck & Bus and Volvo Trucks.
