The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) has appointed Ben Maguire as its new Executive Director.
Maguire joins the ALRTA at an exciting time as it implements its strategic plan and continues to strengthen its advocacy, member and stakeholder engagement and industry leadership across Australia’s livestock and rural transport sectors.
He brings extensive leadership experience across transport, agriculture, government and the not-for-profit sector with a career including senior executive roles with the Australian Trucking Association, Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS) and a range of national leadership and governance appointments.
ALRTA President, Gerard Johnson, said Maguire’s appointment comes at an important time for the industry.
“Ben combines deep industry knowledge with a strong understanding of regional Australia and the challenges facing livestock and rural transport operators,” he said.
“He is a proven advocate, strategic leader and relationship builder, and we are delighted to welcome him to ALRTA.”
Johnson also paid tribute to Anthony Boyle for his service as Interim Executive Director.
“Anthony stepped into the role during a period of significant transition for the association, and has done an outstanding job leading the organisation,” he said.
“His commitment to our members, his industry knowledge and his willingness to serve have been greatly appreciated by the National Council.
“We thank Anthony for his contribution and look forward to his ongoing involvement with ALRTA.”
Maguire said he was honoured to accept the role and looks forward to working alongside members, industry partners and government.
“Livestock and rural transport operators are among the most resilient and hardworking people in Australia,” he said.
“They connect farms, communities and markets, often operating in challenging conditions and over vast distances.
“The industry plays a critical role in Australia’s agricultural success and food security.
“I am excited by the opportunity to work with ALRTA members to ensure their contribution is recognised and their voice remains influential in the decisions that affect their businesses and communities.”
Maguire will continue to support HHTS in his capacity as Director of Corporate Affairs.
“I have greatly enjoyed contributing to the important work of Healthy Heads and will continue to support the organisation’s mission to improve mental health and wellbeing across the transport, warehousing and logistics sectors,” he said.
“The work of Healthy Heads and ALRTA is complementary, with both organisations committed to supporting the people and businesses that keep regional and rural Australia moving.
“Whether we are discussing productivity, safety, workforce development, succession planning or wellbeing, strong outcomes come from supporting the people behind the wheel and the families behind the business.
“I look forward to listening to members, strengthening relationships across industry and government, and helping position ALRTA for continued influence and success in the years ahead.”
Maguire will commence as Executive Director on 29 June.
