Carrier launches new product range in spectacular atmosphere

Mobile refrigeration expert Carrier Transicold presented the all-new X4 refrigeration unit at a launch function at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last night.

“Just like the iconic MCG has changed the sporting landscape in Australia forever, the new X4 has the potential to revolutionise the country’s commercial road transport industry,” said Carrier’s Kelly Geddes. “That’s the spirit we wanted to capture by presenting the unit here in Melbourne.”

Inspired by the most recent Tier 4 emissions legislation by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the new belt-drive unit is said to be Carrier’s most efficient and environmentally friendly product yet.

“It was designed to use significantly less engine power, fuel and refrigerant while still achieving higher refrigeration capacities and faster pull-down than the previous models by implementing a range of so-called ecoFORWARD technologies,” said Geddes.

“Performance gains from the application of ecoFORWARD technologies mean that engine power can be reduced by 18 to 20 per cent. For trailer refrigeration, efficiency improvements result in a 5 to 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared to previous models, over a full range of operating conditions all whilst increasing capacity and cooling performance. A clear win for the environment.”

According to Carrier, the belt-driven X4 Series is now so efficient that it achieves 35 to 50 per cent more Watts of cooling per litre of fuel than Carrier’s current range, making it a smart decision for fleets looking to optimise the efficiency of their refrigerated assets.

In Melbourne, Carrier also unveiled the next generation Vector range. The diesel-electric hybrid had to sheds pounds and beef up performance to make the 2013 EPA Tier 4 standard, so Carrier invested into a full model upgrade to achieve significantly reduced weight, improved fuel economy and greater refrigeration capacity.

At the MCG, Carrier also presented the new Pulsor range, which was designed to provide constant optimum capacity throughout metropolitan delivery cycle. The unit presented in Melbourne was the first to arrive in Australia and had been sold before the first guest arrived at the venue under the legendary main stand.

“Conventional refrigeration units depend on engine speed and reach optimum capacity at 2400 RPM. But during city deliveries, your van is operating 90 per cent of the time at low speed under 2400 RPM. This compromises refrigeration capacity and makes it even harder to maintain the right temperature for your goods,” said Geddes.

“The Pulsor now delivers 100 per cent of its refrigeration capacity at low engine speed to guarantee constant cold throughout the day. With an impressively quick pull-down time and precise temperature control, Pulsor is the perfect fit for customers operating in city centres with multiple door-openings, sensitive products and multi-temperature deliveries.”
