Construction underway for Amazon Australia’s $1.5B skyscraper HQ

Online retail juggernaut, Amazon, has revealed the location of its future Melbourne corporate offices.

Construction of the new skyscraper project has commenced at 555 Collins Street.

This development follows a commitment from the e-commerce company to create new Australian jobs, increase digital skills of local workers and drive economic growth.

“Melbourne has a rich community of innovators, and we are looking forward to bringing Amazon’s growing local workforce so we can continue to invent and innovate on behalf of customers across our Amazon and AWS businesses in Australia,” said Amazon Web Services Managing Director, Adam Beavis.

The project is reported to be one of the biggest constructions currently underway in the Melbourne CBD and will have space for 7,500 office workers.

The first of the two towers is expected to be completed within the next two years.

“This investment will contribute billions of dollars to the Victorian tech economy in the next 10 years and cement our position as the home of innovation in the nation,” said Treasurer of Victoria, Tim Pallas.

These works will support around 1,500 construction jobs.
