Lara-based transport company Derham has added yet another Hercules aluminium rigid and dog tri-axle combination to its fleet, expanding the share of PBS-approved equipment to 40 per cent.
Located some 60km south-west of Melbourne, Derham Transport specialises in delivering raw materials from its own sand pit in the granite ridges of the You Yangs throughout South West Victoria. Director David Derham can draw on more than four decades of transport experience and is convinced that to deliver a quality service, only quality equipment will do the job.
“We rely on premium equipment and highly qualified personnel to provide the best delivery service for the customer. If I purchase a product that works efficiently and can boast a quality backup service, then I'll stick with it,” he says.
“Our fleet is basically made up of tipper trailers that are used to transport a variety of raw materials for councils and private contractors, including washed sand, granite sand products, crushed rock and asphalt. Generally, we'll add or replace up to three tippers annually depending on the work load, and that's where Hercules’ PBS products come in.”
Three months ago, David took delivery of two Hercules aluminium rigid and quad axle dog trailers, and at the end of the year, he added another aluminium rigid and dog tri-axle combination – all Performance-Based Standards (PBS) approved.
According to David, the PBS-approved tippers represent a major productivity upgrade for his growing fleet. “Being able to carry 39 tonnes per load is absolutely invaluable in our line of work,” he says. “Since acquiring two of the rigid and quad-axle dogs the payload all up is 39 tonnes, which is a five-tonne gain compared to our older models in that configuration. The tri-axle dog combination has a payload of 33.5 tonnes, and that's roughly a 3.5-tonne gain.”
Currently, Derham Transport has 35 tippers in its fleet – including tri-axle, quad-axle and B-Double tipper combinations, exclusively made by Hercules.
“Hercules has played a huge role in our operation over the past few decades, especially in the last two years where Hercules' tippers have helped us supply over 250,000 tonnes of granitic sand from our sand pit.”
