BTE opens up on its expansion plans

Business is booming at Bulk Transport Equipment, leading the tipper and special equipment manufacturer to invest in a second facility to keep up with demand.

The orders are in, and Bulk Transport Equipment’s (BTE) book is full to the brim of requests for its tippers and specialised equipment. Much of the investments in equipment are prompted by new project work and infrastructure spending from both private and government operations in Sydney and across Victoria.

“There’s a lot of construction taking place right now and there’s even more to come, so bulk haulage operators are investing in our lightweight and versatile tippers to get the jobs done,” says BTE Director, Alan Griffiths – adding that the BTE portfolio is varied enough to answer to any tipper needs.

“We have been adding different tipper models to our range steadily over the last four years, which has had a direct impact on our sales – especially since we launched our own aluminium bodies and Performance-Based Standards (PBS) approved tipper combinations.”

Alan continues, “We ran out of space at our site and had the opportunity to take over a factory just across the road, so we jumped at it.

“We’ve had to reorganise our processes a little to make it work across the two locations. But the new factory effectively increases the company’s capacity by around 30 per cent.”

The new building adds 2,550m² of factory space and 2,000m² of yard space to BTE’s already significant 13,500m² complex. As of January this year, the BTE workload has been split, with the original facility to continue all manufacturing and painting tasks while the new workshop will take care of the final finishing of trucks and trailers including all prime mover, hydraulics, subframe and towbar installations.
