Celebrating 50 years

Drake Trailers has unveiled its new branding to mark 50 years of trailer manufacturing success and readers of this edition of Trailer Magazine are amongst the first to witness this new company brand image that will be applied to all new Drake equipment from 2010.

From its early days, Drake Trailers has remained committed to delivering reliable, top quality heavy duty low loaders that can stand the test of time. Founded by Colin A. Drake in 1960, Drake Trailers is an iconic name in Australian trailer manufacturing and is one of the few Australian trailer manufacturers that are recognised on the world stage. Throughout its history, Drake Trailers has focused on the design and manufacture of trailers for the heavy haulage industry including low loaders, mining trailers and specialised transport equipment and it is now Australia’s leading manufacturer in this field. Its aim is to produce low maintenance trailers that maximise payload and meet the exacting requirements of its customers, all within the guidelines of ISO 9001 Quality Assurance.

The new company brand image and logo has been designed to acknowledge Drake Trailers’ rich 50 year heritage. The new orange, blue and grey logo features the word ‘Drake’ with a goanna standing proudly on top.

Now was seen as the perfect time to reveal this new branding to the public, just in time for the 2010 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show where Drake Trailers will be displaying a bright pink 4x4 low loader and 2x4 dolly as part of a fundraising effort for the McGrath Foundation which supports those living with breast cancer. It will be complete with a bright pink fully sign written pink Western Star 4864 prime mover. The unit was purchased by long term customer Gavin Transport in Western Australia and will be driven across Australia by the company before taking pride of place at the ITTES.

To coincide with the release of the Drake Trailers’ new image, a new range of ‘purpose built’ heavy haulage equipment will also be on display at the ITTES including standard low loaders, minesite trailers, widening hydraulic low loaders, as well as fully modular steerable platforms. Drake Trailers has developed a new range of minesite trailers to carry smaller equipment in the 100 to 200 tonne range. Working closely with mine operators such as Pilbara Iron and equipment suppliers including Westrac and Haulmax, Drakes Trailers says that these combinations are receiving excellent feedback.

Also new is the full steering widener range in 3x4 and 4x4 configurations which has been designed using self steer axles for enhanced tyre life, whilst maintaining excellent roll stability.

Product brochures covering the new 2010 models include Australia’s first locally built full automatic steerable telescopic trailer which extends to a massive 45m in length.
A range of samples of Drake Trailers’ 1:50 die cast scale models and a range of merchandise has also been made available from the Drake Shop.

With the old ‘Drake Trailers Australia’ logo name plate retired, the company has produced a commemorative mounted version of the original casting. This will be auctioned and all proceeds will be donated to the McGrath Foundation.
