In an effort to support growing express freight demands in south-eastern Victoria, FedEx has opened a purpose-built warehouse in Morwell.
The facility, equipped with an automated sorting system handling up to 1,400 packages per hour, spans almost 5,000 square metres. Its location near a major highway will provide accessibility for delivery and pick-up in neighbouring Gippsland area towns such as Traralgon, Sale, Moe and Warragul.
“With our wide and deep domestic network within Australia, we support business owners to access their local, regional, and national consumers,” said FedEx Express Australasia Vice President, Peter Langley.
“By leveraging new facilities such as our new Morwell station and expanding regional capacity, we enable Australian businesses to move freight in a faster and more efficient manner to people and businesses across the country – no matter where they are located.”
Regional Victoria accounts for 21 per cent of small businesses in Victoria, according to FedEx, with Gippsland showing a steady increase in small businesses over the past year. The area is estimated to grow to $2.66 billion GPR in the near future, the company said.
In support of the FedEx goal to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2040 globally, the new Morwell facility is equipped with sustainable building features including LED lighting and recycled rainwater.
