New South Wales-based trailer builder, Muscat Trailers, is a family operation which has specialised in designing and manufacturing durable, efficient and reliable trailers for more than five decades.

Initially conceptualised by Maurice Azzopardi, the company was truly developed with the collaboration of Paul Muscat during the mid-1960s.

To remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic industry, Muscat Trailers refined its core product offering to include truck and dog combinations, side tippers, live bottom trailers, road trains, Performance-Based Standards (PBS) trailers, converter dollies and other custom builds. Over time, the family business also enhanced its trailers with components which aligned with its focus on delivering high-quality and durable equipment. JOST’s wide range of truck and trailer parts, now including the HYVA portfolio, has long been a part of this.

“We’ve been using JOST products for as long as we can remember,” says Muscat Trailers General Manager, Peter Davis. “Paul and Maurice formed a relationship with JOST back in the 1970s when they were servicing the coal industry, and we’ve kept that relationship strong over the decades.

“JOST and HYVA products were European built in the early days, and that was a large drawing card. As time has gone by, we have continued to support the brands for their durability, longevity and product support.”

Muscat Trailers uses approximately 70 per cent of the entire JOST and HYVA product line. It predominantly sources JOST double row ballraces with e-coating and corrosion protection, premium MODUL high-speed landing legs, kingpins, alloy wheels, HYVA heavy duty hard chromed cylinders in well and front mount models and the proven JSK fifth wheel range.

“These products complement our high-quality trailers extremely well,” Peter says. “JOST and HYVA stand out on Muscat Trailers builds due to their durability, safety, low maintenance and operational efficiency. The HYVA cylinders in particular are very durable and can work in all types of applications, making the units they’re fitted to very versatile.”

One of the trailer builder’s most recent projects included manufacturing multiple four- and five-axle dogs with HYVA cylinders and JOST ballraces for Heidelberg Materials Australia. Muscat Trailers Director, Troy Azzopardi, says Muscat specified the JOST and HYVA components as standard to deliver price-competitive reliability and performance.

“These components will give Heidelberg Materials proven performance across high-demand applications,” he says.

Muscat Trailers prides itself on producing top-tier trailers for customers such as Heidelberg Materials Australia. But to do so, Peter says the business requires suppliers like JOST which provide “superior products”.

“The JOST product line was designed in an era where quality comes first,” he says. “While price has become one of the most important factors for some, we have found that JOST and HYVA have never lost quality as a core value. Our customers are content with the price they pay because of the level of quality they receive.”

This is ultimately why partnering with JOST has benefitted the family operation both financially and operationally.

“JOST has a great internal structure which provides the Muscat Trailers business with comprehensive training and product support,” Peter says. “That is really important for us. They are also great at forecasting and backend planning, meaning they can support our busy schedules and tight turnaround requirements very easily.

“JOST are easy to deal with and provide excellent service. All JOST components are fit for purpose and present no issues in service, and the equipment specialist even provides a backup service when required. We can’t ask for much more.”
