German trailer manufacturer Fliegl has introduced a low loader designed to transport high-tech ploughing equipment. The customer, family owned company Frank Föckersperger GmbH, is located in Aurachtal-Münchaurach, 30km northeast of Nuremberg, and specialises in the production of ploughs used to install fibre optic and electricity cables as well as water and gas pipes underground.
In 1971, Georg Föckersperger developed the unique “induction” system that has gained international renown ever since. Föckersperger’s sophisticated induction technology is able to process a wide range of cables, from tiny control wires to tubes measuring 315mm in diameter, using a force of up to 180 tonne. Even multiple wires/tubes can be ploughed simultaneously, buried up to 2.5m underground and up to 1.5m below riverbeds.
To transport the ploughing robot, Fliegl developed a custom-made tri-axle low loader, solely designed to cart sensitive heavy machinery. “We’ve been developing the vehicle for four months in close collaboration with the customer,” says Fliegl’s Managing Director Helmut Fliegl. “Based on Föckersperger’s initial CAD model, we have developed the technical framework to design a vehicle with the lowest possible tare weight.” To save weight, Fliegl even waived all loading ramps, as the high-tech plough is able to “climb” the vehicle without assistance.
“It’s the third custom tailored Fliegl vehicle we’ve received,” says Frank Föckersperger, Managing Director of the eponymous company. “Fliegl’s build quality and engineering skills are second to none, especially when it comes to designing specialised road transport equipment. The quality level is unmatched, and there is a chance we might place an additional order soon.”
