The Australian Government has announced that it will be funding over $34.8 million towards projects targeting heavy vehicle safety and productivity.
The funding is part of the Australian Government’s nationwide investment in 18 projects under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP).
The HVSPP provides funding to state, territory and local governments for projects that increase safety and productivity for the trucking industry and communities.
Projects funded under the program include widening and upgrading roads used along heavy vehicle freight routes as well as delivering new and upgraded stop rest areas.
“The Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program funds projects increasing safety and reliability for the trucking industry across Australia, to enhance access and improve freight transport through local communities,” said Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Carol Brown.
“These projects will support local communities by assisting businesses to deliver and receive their products and services more efficiently.”
The Australian Government has committed at least $65 million per year to the HVSPP.
The new funded projects include:
New South Wales
- Bega Valley Shire – Arthur Kaine Drive Pavement Renewal and Raising, Merimbula.
- Walcha Council – Derby Street Reconstruction – Walcha.
- Kyeamba Gap Rest Area upgrade, Kyeamba.
- Snowy Mountain Highway and Kosciuszko Road Intersection Upgrade, Pine Valley.
Queensland
- Isaac Regional Council – Golden Mile Road Rehabilitation, Dysart.
- Rockhampton Regional Council – Parkhurst Industrial Area road and intersection upgrades– Parkhurst.
- Maranoa Regional Council – Hoganthulla Road/Mt Moffatt Road Intersection Upgrade – Forestvale.
- Georgetown Vehicle Wash Down Facility.
South Australia
- District Council of Loxton-Waikerie – Taplan Road Sealing Project.
- New rest area and an upgrade of existing rest area on the Stuart Highway between Glendambo and Pimba, South Australia.
- Upgrade of Marrabel Road culvert and Curio Road intersection, Marrabel – Works involve replacing the Marrabel Road culvert over Light River and upgrade the adjacent Curio Road junction to provide turning lanes suitable for 26-metre B-double movements.
Tasmania
- Dorset Council – culvert replacement and road improvements at Lone Star Creek – Golconda Road, Golconda.
Victoria
- Horsham Rural City Council – Gross Bridge load modelling and retrofitting, Longerenong.
- Rural City of Wangaratta – Newman Street upgrade, Wangaratta.
- Horsham Rural City Council – Riverside Road alignment and safety upgrades, Horsham.
- Northern Grampians Shire Council – Banyena Pimpinio Road upgrade – Banyena.
- Baw Baw Shire Council – Gardner and Holman Road Upgrade.
- Victorian Department of Transport – Upgrade Barry’s Bay rest area – Hume Freeway, Wandong.
