Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) has appointed Robert Smedley as one of its new Directors, effective immediately.
Leading engineering consultant, Robert Smedley, is currently the Managing Director of Smedley’s Engineers – who has been prominent in contributing to industry police forums, particularly on safety and productivity issues.
HVIA President, John Drake, said the addition is part of the executive decisions to strengthen the organisation.
“Bringing leaders of this calibre to the table further enhances our ability to put the right strategies in place to help our members across their business operations,” he said. “It ensures that our engagement with members is tuned into the issues they are facing on the ground, so the strategies and solutions that we present to the new Federal Government are founded on a most solid base.”
Drake said Smedley is a very impressive leader in the industry, who will bring “enormous experience to our Board that will further enhance our strategic management and governance capabilities.”
“We are very focussed on ensuring that our Board is both representative of the diversity of our membership and reflective of our national footprint,” he said.
Smedley said he looks forward to working with a company with such a respectable position in the industry.
“HVIA is an important industry stakeholder and I have been impressed by the organisation’s representation of its members in recent years,” he said. “HVIA continues to grow its influence, using its respected position at the table to resolve policy and regulatory challenges.”
According to Smedley, the creation of HVIA as a’united’ and ‘national voice’ has allowed the industry to elevate the level of conversation being had right to the top decision makers. Now being one of those decision makers, he will aims to ensure that HVIA will use its resources to tackle those challenges.
“As a Director, I see my role as ensuring that the organisation is using its resources most effectively to take on those challenges, and to provide strategic advice to ensure its efforts are achieving the necessary outcomes,” he said.
