Keeping Thermaxx rigid

Transport Refrigeration Services has bolstered its Thermaxx range of truck bodies with the introduction of its new five-year warranty.

Thermaxx truck bodies have long been renowned for their thermal efficiency and durability. Now, the range has been further aligned with reputability following Transport Refrigeration Services’ (TRS) latest achievement.

TRS recently introduced a five-year warranty across the entire Thermaxx refrigerated range, covering manufacturing and installation quality. The move reinforced the business’ commitment to long service life and long-term asset performance for operators across Australia while demonstrating its extreme confidence in the engineering and construction of the product.

“Thermaxx bodies stand apart in the market, and the five-year warranty supports that,” says TRS CEO, Daniel Wilton. “The five-year warranty is there because we’re confident it will continue to perform as expected.”

Thermaxx truck bodies are manufactured using high performance insulated panels to hold their structure and insulation over the life of the asset. In many cases this longevity extends far beyond the life of the original vehicle, with Thermaxx bodies regularly outlasting the original chassis itself.

“Customers often bring 10-year-old Thermaxx bodies in just to get the chassis swapped,” Daniel says. “That’s how well the product lasts.”

Thermaxx’s durability eliminates the need for operators to purchase a new unit (or entire truck) when the chassis eventually wears out. This significantly increased revenue for fleets and extends the long-term value of their assets. For TRS, this is why introducing a five-year warranty made sense.

“A lower upfront investment may appear attractive, but if the body doesn’t hold up, the long-term value of the asset is compromised,” Daniel explains. “A truck body needs to do the same job in five or 10 years as it does on day one, and Thermaxx delivers on that. This is why we’ve got the confidence to back the product, and it’s why our customers have the peace of mind that their build is going to last.”

The Thermaxx line of truck bodies were also crafted to deliver maximum thermal efficiency. Each build features an extremely low K-value rating, allowing it to resist heat transfer and maintain consistent internal temperatures with minimal energy use.

The K-value is an industry standard which measures thermal transfer, or how much heat passes from the inside of the truck body to the outside. The lower the K-value, the better the insulation.

In transport, a low K-value allows refrigeration systems to work more efficiently, resulting in lower energy consumption, less fuel use and reduced wear on equipment. For operators, less maintenance, fewer repairs and longer service life translates into lower operating costs and improved performance. This also leads to better temperature stability for loads which reduces the risk of spoilage and helps meet the stringent compliance requirements for a wide range of products.

TRS has tested the whole Thermaxx range to the Australian Standard AS 4982 – providing clear, independently verified K-value data and making it easier for customers to compare thermal performance between products based on fact, not just price or branding.

Independent testing has shown K values around 0.57 W/m2K on selected builds. According to Daniel, these tests confirmed Thermaxx truck bodies consistently achieve among the lowest independently tested K values in the country.

“It comes back to the way the panels are made and the way the bodies are put together,” he says. “It’s a fully sealed product, and that gives it its strength, insulation and light weight. The lower tare weight translates directly to higher legal payload.

“Traditional panels are made much like a book – they’re open and they can flex. However, ours are fully sealed all the way around, like the bound side of a notebook. So, not only is it strong, but it also doesn’t need any additional strengthening. That means we can make it light.”

Thermaxx subframes are also fully galvanised to prevent rust and corrosion. All structural components are 3D-designed to suit individual applications and chassis type. Furthermore, the flooring of each unit is extremely sturdy, and extra features such as steps and other accessories can be easily fitted without needing to cut and weld the body.

“The floor is able to support itself,” Daniel says. “The subframe just needs to keep it on the truck, and that’s really important as well.

“We have a fairly modular system when it comes to modifications which allows us to keep the galvanised and durable subframe together.”

TRS was founded in 1978 by Managing Director, Greg Woodley, who transformed the company from a one-man operation to a national entity. The company builds, services and maintains its Thermaxx truck bodies throughout New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia facilities while providing exclusive support for Thermo King and Anteo customers in NSW and SA. This means operators can rely on one trusted partner for the long term – from specification and build through to ongoing servicing and parts.

Within these locations, each unit is designed for demanding Australian conditions, sustained thermal load and operational durability. Build discipline, panel construction and material selection centred on performance has remained consistent over time.

Additionally, Thermaxx offers build, service and warranty under one national provider, with long term lifecycle support.

“The long-term savings of Thermaxx are undeniable,” Daniel says. “For operators looking to reduce total cost of ownership while ensuring consistent thermal performance across long distances and challenging conditions, Thermaxx truck bodies offer a tested, proven solution.”
