The Livestock and Bulk Carriers Association (LBCA) is seeking nominations for its first LBCA Young Driver Award.
According to the LBCA, each nominee must be a driver aged between 21 and 35 years who promotes the positive aspects of the rural transport industry by demonstrating a best practice approach to driving and safety.
The winner of the award will receive a $5,000 trip to the USA, which will be presented at the LBCA Conference held 6-7 March 2015 in Jindabyne.
“Rural transport is an essential service and we have an ageing workforce,” said LBCA President, Jock Carter (pictured).
“Without rural transporters, Australian produce wouldn’t get from the farm gate to the table. The job is a lot more challenging than people realise, the hours are long, the work can be dangerous, and compliance can be complicated.
“The LBCA Young Driver Award recognises our top young drivers and showcases their commitment to safety and best practice. It’s something we should all strive for and be proud of.”
The award is part of a campaign to promote rural transport as a career for young people and nominations are open until 9 January 2015.
