Linfox’s Fuel Efficiency Pilot Study will use data from the company’s own vehicle monitoring system, FoxTrax, and vehicle fuel consumption records to gauge fuel efficiency.
The FoxTrax system uses GPS technology to track vehicle routes, stops and starts, speed, braking and location. Approximately 140 vehicles across four states are being monitored in the pilot study.
Linfox’s Group Manager Sustainability, David McInnes said preliminary results point to several areas for improvement. “The study will identify our most fuel efficient vehicles and the factors contributing to their efficiency including driver training, vehicle tuning, route geography, average speeds, tyre maintenance and aerodynamics,” David said. “We then aim to introduce interventions to ensure all vehicles perform at, or close to, benchmark efficiency levels.”
The study is a new component of Linfox’s strategy to reduce its rate of greenhouse gas emissions from its global operations by 50 per cent by 2015 based on its 2007 performance.
