New Zealand transport and logistics company, Mainfreight, has underlined its bullish outlook for the Australian market with a substantial investment into a new temperature controlled facility in Brisbane.
The new, purpose-built facility is located near the Brisbane Airport to ensure efficient access for urgent and perishable products 24/7. It can boast multiple zones that can be set at independent temperatures, including a 930m2 surface chilled unloading zone, which is fitted with automatic rapid rising doors, safety light beam sensors and integrated floor detectors.
Mainfreight also included a freezer section covering temperatures from -18Cº to -25Cº, tailored with automatic fan-stop doors to reduce humidity and prevent temperature rise.
The adjustable chiller section, meanwhile, can be maintained from 0Cº to 20° for keeping sensitive cargo in its most optimal condition.
“Fresh flowers, tropical fruit, meat, fish and seasonal products are available in stores all year round. Consumer expectations of perishable product availability have become more demanding over time, triggering huge growth in the variety of perishables needing to be shipped globally,” the company commented.
“The need for delicate handling, temperature management and speed to maximise shelf life is [therefore] imperative. Understanding the unique requirements of freight with a limited lifespan, our perishable team is a crucial partner when sending perishable products internationally.”
With firm airline agreements and service offerings in customs clearance, AQIS, fumigation, pre-despatch quality inspections, packing for peak freshness and more, the new site is said to be ideally positioned to offer a full end to end service to Mainfreight’s Queensland clientele.
Mainfreight’s Australian revenues rose 5.8 per cent over the previous year to $458.47 million, with the second half up 21.1 per cent year-over-year.
