Lifting and carrying heavy objects are among the main causes of accidents in the Australian workplace, but with the right equipment, most of these injuries are avoidable. Maxilift Australia now announced the release of a new generation of lightweight high performance cranes that can make light work of a tough task.
According to Principal, Bob Davis, who was involved in the introduction of Maxilift to Australia over 20 years ago, a truck-mounted crane is the tradesman’s most useful tool.
Although lifting injuries are commonly associated with moving large pieces of equipment, almost anybody can get hurt at work after pulling, pushing, lifting or carrying something in the wrong way. Such accidents not only lead to occasional short-term problems but, over time, can also cause serious Musculoskeletal disorders.
“Whether working in road construction, gardening, paving or landscaping, today’s tradesmen handle a large variety of equipment that has be loaded and unloaded multiple times a day,” says Bob. “Lifting and carrying gear day by day may cause back pain, problems with joints muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
“Due to the widespread application of easy-to-use lifting tools such as Maxilift cranes, the risk of heavy repetitive lifting has been reduced dramatically.”
Since Maxilift entered the stage, the industry has seen a notable decrease in the number of incidents, says Bob. “ Maxilift cranes are known for their reliability, robust construction and ease of use. Following the release of the ML510 5-tonne metre model earlier this year – the company’s biggest-ever crane – Maxilift are now ready to unveil the ML110.
“The ML110 is competing in the 1-tonne metre capacity class and therefore suitable for heavy utilities and most trucks,” says Bob. “Its maximum reach is 4.5 metres and it can lift up to 200kg at that reach, while the industry standard is no more than 3 metres.”
Featuring a quick release base for easy interchanging between vehicles, the ML110 is also available with an optional winch. “Most importantly, it is very easy to fit as the power pack is integrated with the crane,” says Bob. “There is no need for separate mounting or installing hydraulic lines. It’s simple, robust and reliable.”
Therefore, it is no surprise that Maxilift Australia is expecting the ML 110 to lead the way in the small vehicle market, as it is both lightweight and powerful, has the longest reach in its class and is very easy for installers to fit.
