Western Australian mining company, MLG Oz, has expanded its operations in the Pilbara region.
The Kalgoorlie-based operator was awarded a 12-month contract with Rio Tinto earlier this year to deliver a range of bulk haulage and site support services for Western Turner Syncline iron ore mine.
The scope of work includes off-road bulk ore haulage, material loading, rock breaking, unloading, stockpile management and road maintenance services. These services will support Rio Tinto’s ongoing operations and infrastructure at the site.
MLG Oz Managing Director, Murray Leahy, described the agreement as a key step in the company’s strategic growth beyond its traditional Goldfields base.
“Rio has been actively reviewing MLG’s approach and performance standards to assess our broader capability to deliver services in the Pilbara region,” he said.
“In particular, they have been focused on the efficiencies that can be gained through MLG’s hub and bespoke delivery model.
“As a proud WA company, MLG is delighted to have been selected as a supplier to Rio.
“We warmly acknowledge Rio’s commitment to supporting local businesses and look forward to building a long-term relationship.”
The Western Turner Syncline mine is an integral part of Rio Tinto’s Pilbara iron ore network which supplies global markets with high-grade iron ore. MLG’s involvement represents a strong endorsement of the company’s operational capabilities, safety standards and performance reliability.
This contract is expected to bolster MLG’s revenue and support its continued expansion into major mining regions across Australia.
MLG Oz thanked Rio Tinto for the opportunity and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering efficient, safe and high quality outcomes at the Western Turner Syncline site.
Meanwhile, in New South Wales, Boral has welcomed the official opening of the Western Harbour Tunnel precasting facility at Emu Plains.
