The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad) has welcomed the Government decision to extend stamp duty exemptions to trailers transferred into NSW from other jurisdictions.
The representative body for road transport operators confirmed that it had petitioned the government in 2012 to extend the exemption on newly registered trailers in NSW to those already registered in other jurisdictions as well as those currently operating under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS).
“I would like to commend the Fair Trading Minister, the Hon. Matthew Mason-Cox MLC for delivering a red tape reform that will provide much needed cost relief to road transport operators in NSW who in turn will continue to lift productivity in that state,” said Geoff Crouch, NatRoad President.
Crouch said that NatRoad does support measures that encourage operators to pay road user charges to the provider of the road network, such as annual registration fees.
