MaxiTRANS promotes mental health awareness

Australian trailer builder, MaxiTRANS, has announced that it has raised $15,000 via a campaign for ‘R U OK? Day’.

The company again committed to donating 1% of transactions on the day to the cause, driving much needed awareness towards suicide prevention.

MaxiTRANS, in conjunction with dealer partners Mildura Truck Centre & G&A Lombardi, has provided support with 1% of the purchase price from all new trailers, truck bodies ordered, and parts purchased from participating outlets.

This year brings MaxiTRANS’ total donation to almost $60,000 since its first ‘R U OK? Day’ campaign in September 2017.

‘R U OK? Day’ is held every September and encourages people to TRUST THE SIGNS and ask friends, colleagues and family members ‘R U OK?’ to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

This year presented a great new challenge, with Covid-19 putting on hold MaxiTRANS’ usual staff gatherings which have been used to help celebrate and promote the day.

An opportunity arose, as a result, for MaxiTRANS to opt for a virtual RUOK? Day.

Staff participated in online mental health sessions provided by the Company’s EAP provider to learn ways to deal with mental health and join in discussions around mental health prevention.

MaxiTRANS Managing Director and CEO, Dean Jenkins, said that this year made it even more important to stop to reflect on ’R U OK? Day’ and the message it delivers.

"The need for increased awareness of mental health and the challenges it places on everyone is certainly more evident at this particular point in time,” he said.

“It was great to see such an overwhelming amount of support from our customers this year. Support towards the campaign this year has far exceeded previous years which has been really fantastic to see. Our customers can feel proud knowing their contribution to ‘RUOK?’ will go a long way towards continuing to provide much needed support and awareness for suicide prevention in our industry,” said Jenkins.

Jenkins said that MaxiTRANS is committed to improving safety for both our customers and our staff which is delivered through one of our company values to ‘Send all our people home safely’.
Safety extends to mental wellbeing, which is why MaxiTRANS continued its investment towards mental health discussion even in a Covid world.

“It was fantastic to see so many of our staff embrace the virtual sessions, using the time to take the opportunity to obtain knowledge and join in discussions about mental health,” said Jenkins — adding that feedback from staff who attended the sessions had been extremely positive.

MaxiTRANS continues to increase its active participation, according to Jenkins, with key industry associations to be the driving voice for a more efficient and safer road network to benefit not only all of our customers, but all greater road users too.

“It’s a challenging time for all of us and a day like RUOK? Day is an important one to celebrate. Most importantly though, we should not limit suicide prevention to one day a year,” he said.

“If you see someone struggling, at any time, ask them ‘R U OK?’”.
