Dr Sarah Jones, Toll Group's road transport compliance, safety and regulation expert, is the newest international member of the Standing Committee on truck and bus safety within the Transportation Research Board (TRB) in Washington, US.
The TRB, according to Jones, is one of seven program units of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and provides independent, objective analysis and advice to inform complex public policy decisions.
Her appointment at TRB is for a three-year period.
"Toll is safety obsessed and we believe everyone has the right to go home safely," a Toll spokesperson told Trailer Magazine. "Under the leadership of Dr Sarah Jones, we are conducting industry leading research into on-road fatalities as well as fatigue management to help develop policies and procedures to manage key risks, provide appropriate equipment and training to inform our people. Today’s announcement of Dr Sarah Jones’ appointment to the TRB reflects Dr Jones’ expertise and dedication to drive best practice when it comes to safety in the transportation industry. We are proud of the contribution we are actively making to road safety in Australia and the significant contribution Dr Jones' research brings to managing insights into human behaviour, technology and occupational hazards to effect change across the industry. We are currently working on our next strategic research project, which is a comprehensive analysis of motor vehicle incidents. We hope to unearth data about trends, characteristics and causation that will ultimately further our prevention framework."
In recent news, Toll released its 'suicide by truck' findings at TRB.
