This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Great Moscow Circus in Australia. Originating in Russia, with new performances continuing to be released each year, the Moscow Circus was first introduced into Australia by the Edgley family, who also has direct links to Russia, in 1961. Then, around 15 years ago, the Weber family became partners in the running of the circus.
While the two families manage and run the show in unison, the Edgleys manage the choreography, and the Weber family takes care of the logistical operations.
The Great Moscow Circus now performs around 400 shows each year, complete with renowned Russian performers and exclusive international guest acts from around the world. A highlight of the performance is the Grand Finale which features four motorbikes from Brazil in the ‘Globe of Death’, an act never before seen in Australia.
Currently, the Great Moscow Circus is touring Melbourne, before travelling to Adelaide and then Brisbane, where the Australian leg of the tour will conclude.
Trailers are used to cart the circus equipment from one location to the next, carrying everything from the Big Top circus tent along with the heavy pegs that are used to secure it, to the seating, electrical equipment and lighting.
There are five trailers in the Moscow Circus fleet, the three newest all built by Krueger – with the latest addition delivered at the start of May.
“When we were looking into purchasing new trailers, we did our research and looked at several different companies before making our final decision,” explains Harry Weber. “After asking around the grapevine, we were sold on Krueger. The company just seems to be so innovative in what they do.”
All trailers in the fleet are 48ft and built to the maximum legal height to ensure all show equipment can be carried with ease. The striking branded curtains are supplied and manufactured by Polyweld, with digital imaging completed by Vivad, a division of Polyweld.
“Krueger showed that they knew exactly what they were doing right through the process of ordering these trailers,” says Harry. “They assisted in arranging the imaging on our curtains and finished the trailers on time, when they said they would. When the time comes to order more trailers, I wouldn’t hesitate in going straight back to Krueger.”
Upon finishing the Australian tour, the Great Moscow Circus travel over to Hong Kong to perform for eight weeks throughout December and January, before making its way to New Zealand and then South Africa.
