At the 17th Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Award ceremony held in December, Qube Ports and Bulk received the Safe Transport Award.
Qube Ports and Bulk received the Award for introducing effective safety measures to achieve improvements in the OH&S sector, on the back of a remarkable 3.4 years free of lost time injury at their Portland facility in Victoria.
This equates to more than a quarter of a million man hours without a lost time injury among its 90 employees, many of whom are involved in high risk work.
The Operations Manager at Qube's Portland facility, David Bothe, said: “Portland safety is about people, it’s about looking after your mates. If you see any of your work mates working unsafely, you stop them. “
In a media release Qube Ports and Bulk said it was extremely proud of what the Portland operation has achieved and that safety is critical to their business. “This is an acknowledgement that Qube has implemented safe systems of work as we continue to strive to deliver a safe work place for our employees and a safe operating environment for our clients, vessels and cargo,” said Director, Michael Sousa.
