The Queensland Government is looking to bolster the safety of the Warrego Highway, a critical transport corridor.
Delivered under the national Targeted Road Safety Program, a set of road improvements will target a 60-kilometre stretch of the highway between Toowoomba and Dalby – an area with a poor crash history.
The upgrades include road widening, road edge flattening, new signage and line marking, removal of some roadside hazards and the installation of dedicated turn lanes at Speed Road near Oakey.
Up to 15,000 vehicles travel this stretch of the Warrego Highway every day, making these safety works crucial for safety along the important freight passageway.
Queensland Minister for Condamine, Pat Weir, recognised the upgrades as vital for the transport industry.
“From grain and cattle to cotton and machinery, this highway carries the heartbeat of our region,” he said.
“Not only that, but we also have local and travellers on that road every day.
“These upgrades will make it safer and more efficient for everyone who relies on it.”
Construction will commence in late 2025 and continue into 2026.
In other news, the Monaro Highway is being upgraded to deliver improved safety, freight efficiency and travel benefits.
