Pakenham-based R&C Asphalt Paving has made the move to PBS, investing in two sets of PBS-approved rigid and quad-axle dog trailers.
According to Roger McGill, Director of R&C Asphalt Paving, choosing tipper specialist Hamelex White was the best choice for his company when adding PBS vehicles to the fleet.
“Inefficient operations increase our cost per tonne-kilometre, so naturally we’re constantly looking at new ways to carry as much as we can on every run,” he explains. “Performance-Based Standards have become the new buzzword in the industry, so we decided to explore our options in that field as well.”
The two Hamelex White rigid and quad-axle dog aluminium combinations were specifically designed to transport all sorts of crushed rock and raw materials – and made a lasting impression on Roger, who soon ordered two 8×4 twin steer rigids to haul asphalt.
The two PBS-approved quad-axle dog trailers represent the biggest productivity upgrade his small fleet has ever seen. With a gross mass of 57.5 tonnes, each dog can boast a payload of 40.6 tonnes.
“Looking at the figures alone, some may say it’s almost the same as using two sets of B-doubles, but they don’t see the flexibility in terms of where it can travel. Being able to cart an excess of more than 40 tonnes of load a day that is absolutely invaluable in our line of work,” McGill adds.
