Scully RSV is a rental and leasing organisation specialising in providing temperature-controlled distribution solutions to transport companies and food and pharmaceutical manufactures which manage their own distribution.
Originating in Brisbane, it offers services all across Australia with key locations in Townsville, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Tasmania.
Having proven its strong pedigree in offering fleet solutions to the refrigerated transport sector and establishing a national branch network, Scully RSV is now targeting what it identifies as a clear gap in the market. To power its next phase of growth, the business has expanded its rental fleet to include a premium range of ambient and general freight fleet solutions.
“As a proud Australian-owned and operated business for over 30 years, it was a natural progression for Scully RSV to move into renting ambient trucks and trailers,” says Scully RSV National Sales and Business Development Manager, Glenn Smith. “Scully RSV has always been a customer-led organisation, and it was this philosophy which saw us expand our branch network into markets including Townsville, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart.
“In the same way, our clients were asking us to consolidate ambient fleet solutions under a single service model to streamline their fleet management solutions. And we were well placed to respond.”
Scully RSV’s fleet leasing business already boasts ambient categories including dry freight vans, flatbed trucks, curtainsider trailers and rigid trucks. Now, this continues to be bolstered with a growing portfolio of new builds and long-term hire solutions.
“Our customer base has taken us into this direction naturally,” Glenn says. “The feedback we’ve received is that they have a range of existing partnerships across refrigerated and ambient fleet solutions, but none with a single source provider offering the end-to-end solution, scale and flexibility we can. That’s the gap we’ve identified and the one we are starting to fill.”
The updated ambient line includes all the strengths of Scully RSV’s renowned refrigerated product portfolio.
“Our refrigerated vehicle design methods form the basis of everything we do from an ambient fleet perspective,” Glenn says. “We prioritise locally sourced and procured products wherever we possibly can.
“One of the things that has always set Scully apart is our ability to think outside the box to solve problems and a willingness to provide bespoke capital allocation solutions to get customers into their kit.
“Over the past few years we’ve noticed the conversations we’re having with our customers are becoming less about the physical product they are renting and more about how we can help optimise their balance sheet to set themselves up for success. We now have a range of customers that have a mix of asset ownership, leasing and flexible rental solutions in their stable, and as a result, are able to flex up and down as the market moves.”

For Scully RSV, truck rental is about simplicity just as much as flexibility.
“With the introduction of AASB 16 back in 2019, most leases need to be recognised on the balance sheet,” Glenn explains. “Long-term rental offers a way to access a fleet without taking on long-term financial commitments. So, we’re making rental appealing both operationally and financially to keep things simple and flexible.”
Scully RSV has always specialised in partnering with businesses to provide them with quality refrigerated assets via rental or fixed-term lease solutions where appropriate. But now, following overwhelming demand, it is introducing the ambient rental fleet for short and long-term durations across its national branch network.
For the first time, customers will also be able to tap into Scully’s award-winning Scully Live platform. Glenn says ScullyLive is a one-stop shop for customers whether they own, rent or lease the equipment from Scully RSV.
“This offering gives us the ability to scale our business further and utilise the expertise and resources already existing in the business,” he says. “Scully RSV already has the internal capacity and skillset to manage its national fleet, and now we’ll have an even better opportunity to work with our maintenance partners and OEMs to offer a consolidated service offering to our clients.”
Scully RSV has taken great pride in its ability to source and financially package custom builds which meet the unique needs of its clients. Whether end users require refrigerated vans, utes or trucks up to 16 pallets in size, the business ensures each vehicle is tailored for optimal performance and reliability.
“We take the time to understand specific requirements, designing and building vehicles that are precisely suited to each business’ operation,” Glenn says. “Our diverse range of fleet options allows customers to choose the best fit for their needs, with flexible hire terms alongside new and used trucks and trailers for sale.
“We are committed to delivering high-quality solutions that keep our customer’s products transported safely and efficiently.”
This solutions-focused commitment is what led to the introduction of the new ambient line. For Scully RSV, it’s a venture which will also lead to future expansion opportunities.
“Over the last four years, we have extended our branch network nationally and expanded the Scully RSV refrigerated fleet to more than 1,000 assets,” Glenn says. “We will continue to grow the refrigerated and ambient fleet segments and are extremely excited to be adding ambient rigid truck bodies to our portfolio of products, which together will fuel our next stage of growth.”
