Queensland transport company, SRV Roadfreight Services, will raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation with a gala day to be held at the company’s Ormeau depot, on Saturday, September 21.
According to SRV’s Compliance Manager, Melanie Cosgrove, the day will feature a barbecue, truck trophy awards, live entertainment and raffles to raise funds for the Foundation all to increase awareness of the disease that is affecting an increasing number of men in the transport industry.
“When you take a look at the statistics prostate cancer is on the increase and can potentially touch many men in the road transport industry,” Cosgrove said. “We decided to hold the event to raise awareness by providing information at a fun day for the whole family and hope to raise a substantial amount of money to assist research.”
SRV will further support the Prostate Cancer Foundation with a trailer set fitted with curtains, donated by Vawdrey, promoting the need for men to have regular prostate checks. For every kilometre the trailers travels over the course of a year one cent will be donated to the Foundation.
“Awareness is vital and the truck will hopefully get the message across that males need to have regular checks. When you look at the average age of those susceptible to the disease you see that this matches those working in our industry,” Cosgrove added.
