Manufacturing about 25 million tyres per annum, Chinese company Triangle has become a significant player in the global tyre market. According to the Global Tyre Report issued by UK magazine Rubber Journal, it is the 14th largest tyre company in the world based on sales, and the second largest tyre company in China.
In mid-2009, Colrain identified an opportunity to add tyres to its existing product portfolio. After doing an extensive review of the local market, the Australian company realised that Chinese brand Triangle would be able to provide “the best value for money”. Ever since, the duo has written a story of success. “Triangle is the fourth largest producer of OTR tyres in the world,” says Colrain’s General Manager Peter Loimaranta. “We are proud to support such a successful company in capturing the local market. Triangle is able to offer a vast portfolio for almost every application, producing five million truck and bus tyres, 20 million passenger car tyres, and 200,000 off road tyres per annum.”
Having obtained a leading position in China’s domestic tyre market, Triangle is now in the process of expanding its international presence. “Triangle can rely on the reputation it has built with its global clientele,” Peter explains. “For instance, Triangle is an OEM partner of renowned off-road vehicle manufacturers Caterpillar, Volvo and Iveco, and recently won the CAT platinum supplier award. They also operate as a contract manufacturer for Goodyear.”
According to Peter, Triangle’s strength is the TBR, CAR and OTR range. “Triangle entered the Australian marketplace over ten years ago and gained enough experience to provide a product that is suitable for the country’s harsh environment. For Colrain, Triangle’s commitment to top quality and reliability is paramount.
“Australian customers can purchase tyres individually, but we are also able to provide a tyre and wheel combination by combining the Triangle tyre with either our Full Champ aluminium wheel range or the Maxus range of steel wheels,” Peter adds.
In China, Triangle is backing the global expansion plan by building a new 430 acre production facility in Wei Hai’s industrial zone in the Shandong province. “The new site will take a leading role in the Chinese tyre manufacturing industry in terms of green manufacturing,” Peter explains. “By sticking to the guideline of low carbon, high efficiency and sustainability, Triangle will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, smoke and gas, and recycle both surplus heat and water. They also use solar energy and a low temperature mixing technology that can save up to 10 percent of the energy used to produce a tyre.
“In addition, the new Triangle Industrial Park will boost the production capacity from 25 million tyres to about 30 million. But the real reason why we recommend Triangle is the combination of sustainable thinking and a zero failure policy.
“By using Colrain’s existing infrastructure, Colrain is also able to distribute tyres around Australia with very little additional cost,” says Peter. “A good partnership is one that everybody can profit from. That’s why we pass the savings onto our customers; and that’s why Triangle has become one of the marquee brands in our range.”
