Visy Logistics has announced a significant update to its fleet after securing a contract with the largest independent brewery in Australia.
As the sole linehaul provider of Coopers Brewery, Visy Logistics will manage more than 2,000 interstate freight movements annually from Adelaide to key markets including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
To carry out the contract, Visy Logistics has invested in 32 new assets including Vawdrey B-double combinations and Volvo and MAN prime movers.
The modern semi-trailer combinations have the ability to safeguard product quality in all weather conditions and feature enhanced safety technologies including roll stability systems, Seeing Machines and retractable trailer stairs.
Replacing standard 34-pallet equivalent configurations, the 36-pallet B-doubles will increase productivity by six per cent each trip – allowing Visy Logistics to meet the same distribution network with six per cent fewer truck movements each year.
The trailers are coupled to Euro 6 prime movers which reduce fuel use by five per cent compared with previous-generation Euro 5 vehicles.
Additionally, Visy Logistics has invested in rail and coastal shipping services into Western Australia to cut transport emissions with fewer trucks and reduce the number of kilometres travelled further.
Visy Logistics President, Wayne Boxshall, was pleased to make the announcement.
“Visy Logistics is excited to partner with a great Australian business built on quality, family values and generations of experience,” he said.
“By finding a way to meet Coopers’ Australia-wide distribution network with less truck movements, Visy Logistics has found a solution the takes trucks off the road, facilitates future growth and saves money for an iconic Australian brand.”
Founded in 1862, Coopers Brewery is a sixth-generation South Australian family company and the largest Australian-owned brewery in the country.
Coopers Brewery Managing Director, Michael Shearer, said collaborating with Visy Logistics will be critical to its operations.
“Coopers beer sales are growing right across Australia and this partnership with Visy Logistics will help ensure our product continues to reach local bottle shops, pubs, clubs and the end consumer as efficiently and reliably as possible,” he said.
In other news, Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds and the Australasian Supply Chain & Logistics Association have formalised a new partnership.
