Industry will continue to drive positive outcomes to empower women and achieve equality and parity for them.
The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has commended the success of the Women in Transport (WiT) program in attracting and retaining women to the transport industry.
Celebrating the significant contribution made by women in the industry on International Women’s Day, the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has highlighted the need to raise awareness to build gender equality in transport.
“Today is a day to celebrate the ongoing achievements of inclusion, awareness, and the advancement of women,” the VTA said in a statement.
“Our industry will continue to drive positive outcomes to meet the challenge of empowering women in our communities to achieve equality, parity and improving women’s rights.
“Our industry is proud to be able to support the elimination of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. We have taken positive steps to attract and retain women to the transport industry, evidenced by the significant results from our Women in Transport Program being delivered in partnership with the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.
“More than half of participants to date are women and women over 45, with over 60 women trained and placed with transport companies and having the capabilities and confidence to start their long-term careers in our industry.”
The VTA is set to host its Annual Women’s Lunch on Friday, 14 April at Showtime Events Centre in Melbourne.
This year’s event will feature several inspiring speakers including Australian Olympian and Rio Olympics Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller.
The lunch is an opportunity to reflect on how the industry can better support women in transport.
Registrations are expected to open soon.
