Godfrey Hirst is an Australian carpet manufacturer. In order to enhance its schedule efficiency and reduce the costs associated with transporting carpet rolls from its Laverton warehouse in Victoria, to the distribution outlet in Smeaton Grange in New South Wales, Godfrey Hirst contracted Wettenhalls.
Wettenhall’s Regional Development Manager, Chris Broad, approached Freighter to develop an appropriate T-Liner specification to suit the task at hand.
Six Freighter B-double T-Liner for manufactured for this contract. Each B-double is capable of carrying up to 108 carpet rolls, or around 2.5km of carpet.
Although they appear to be standard curtain-sided trailers, they feature additional components to ensure the carpet rolls can be transported safely.
In addition to standard gates that provide sideway load restraint, five unique carpet sliding posts have also been included on both sides of the trailer to accommodate the length of the carpet rolls and the height to which they will be loaded.
To ensure that the carpet rolls do not get caught on the roof truss as those closest to the roof are loaded/unloaded, each A and B trailer is equipped with smooth plywood.
